"Shopping season for many, shop-lifting season for a few"

Over 10% of Americans shoplift and most can be helped to stop!

Welcome to Cleptomaniacs and Shoplifters Anonymous!

Our purpose is to provide safe, confidential and non-judgmental places for compassion, understanding and recovery from "addictive-compulsive" dishonest behavior, primarily shoplifting, fraud, kleptomania and embezzlement.

  • Cleptomaniacs And Shoplifters Anonymous (CASA) is a unique, independent
and secular weekly self-help group. It was founded in Detroit, MI in September 1992
by a recovering shoplifter who felt such a group could help himself, others, and the
    community as a whole.
  • The Shulman Center Program has been continually evolving and fine-tuning
from its earliest successful results. Typically, 90% of our clients enroll in and
successfully complete the basic program structure:
  • Expert Therapy/Counseling sessions by phone available by Terrence D. Shulman
JD, LMSW, ACSW, CAAC, CPC -- attorney, addictions counselor, international expert
on shoplifting addiction, founder of C.A.S.A., and recovering shoplifter.

Our goal is to educate individuals and the community at large about the complex motivations and recovery treatment process for these behaviors, while emphasizing personal responsibility and accountability.

Terrence Shulman has been helping recovering shoplifters since 1992. Here is the testimony of just one of the people he helped:

"I had a serious problem I could not kick by myself. I had no idea there was any form of help for people who shoplifted or stole. Why was I doing this? Why was I throwing away my once clean and honest life and risking all? I entered Mr. Shulman's 10 session phone counseling program and read his book. Mr. Shulman helped me understand my past and why I started shoplifting. Now, four months into my recovery, I have the tools to help myself avoid shoplifting and I have a solid plan to walk safely through my life from this point on. I am very relieved to learn these things and now firmly believe I am not a criminal nor a bad person. I would highly recommend Mr. Shulman's book and counseling services. He provides a safe and supportive environment to begin the road to recovery."
